Man shares FBI ‘mirroring’ negotiation tip that will help you win people over

Do you worry about people not liking you, or that you don’t always make the best first impression?

Turns out there could be a very easy way to resolve this.

A TikTok user has shared a tip he learned from former FBI hostage negotiator Chris Voss.

In a video shared to the social media platform, David Rooney, explained that there’s a negotiation technique that can help to “win anyone over”.

It’s known as “mirroring” and it’s actually very simple to do, you just have to make sure you’re paying proper attention to what those around you are saying.

David explains: “Here’s a negotiation technique that will help win anyone over.

“It’s called mirroring and it involves repeating keywords in a conversation to make someone feel like they’re being understood.

“For example, if someone says, ‘I’m having a really hard time, I feel like I’m under a lot of financial pressure and a lot of stress at the moment’. You could say back to them: ‘Financial pressure and stress?’

“By repeating phrases and words that they said, it shows that you’re empathising with them. It also reduces tension and makes the other person feel like they’re being heard.”

The video is the third FBI technique David has shared on his account and the clips garner a lot of attention.

He has previously also explained a trick for getting people to say yes to pretty much any question you ask.

“Getting the person to say yes three times before asking a question, will make them more likely to say yes to your question,” he said.

“Say you want to convince someone to go to McDonald’s with you.

“Ask, are you hungry? Yes. “Do you like burgers? Yes. Do you want to eat? Yes.

“Do you want to go to McDonald’s?”

“They’re much more likely to say yes cause you’ve primed them to say yes in the three previous questions,” David adds.
